Head held high, nostrils flared the short, fiery, little red mare pranced into Pandora’s Meadow. She had wandered around far too long for her liking. She’d been a little heartbroken the last time around; she had found the stallion she’d thought she’d follow for the rest of her days. Until he refused to give her a foal. That was the deal breaker. After a lot of deep thought & hopeless attempts at getting him to change her mind she decided to leave. That, however, was months ago. Now this lady was ready to start over again.
Due to her size she knew if she stood off to the sidelines she’d be glanced over easily. She wanted to be noticed. She didn’t plan on staying here long, she was ready to join a new herd. The loner life just wasn't for her - at all. She set her eyes on the very center of the meadow where she would sure to be seen by every stallion who entered the meadows. That’s where she would stay while she waited for her suitors.

It took Gryffin a lot of motivating factors to leave his home, or at least one large motivating factor, and that factor was he was a leader without followers. The lands were quiet right now, there territories bordering the Acres seemed vacant and the homeless grounds were scarce. It was time to snare the displaced mares before the competition got too vast. Not that Gryff had much to worry about, he would just rather not have to mingle too many stallions. The arrogance most of them inflated into the air was less than tolerable, and while Gryffin wasn't the most friendly brute himself he wasn't repulsive in character either, he just wan't savvy on small talk.
Pandora's Meadow wasn't crowded with mares, but the scents of a few recent visitors was still fresh. He spotted the red mare almost before he detected her, as if her pelt wasn't noticeable enough she displayed herself about as blatantly as possible. Entertained by her readiness to leave these lands he approached her over the others. Gryff wasn't the tallest stallion, so he could appreciate her small stature.
He didn't approach too hastily, where she was standing she would surely see him before he got too close. Charcoal dipped maw nodded to rust colored mare, caramel colored skin twitched slightly as he came to a halt. His currently heavy winter coat made him appear 'fluffier' than usual and hid his dapples, but he was true to his Akhal Teke lineage with a trim and athletic anatomy. "Hello. He started this conversation like many others. "I'm Gryffin, though prefer the shortened titled Gryff. And you are? He made his voice inviting, though by nature he wasn't overly excitable, but he tried his best to seem enthusiastic.

The little red mare had been grazing peacefully, other than a couple mares no stallions had entered the premises. She was on high alert though, raising her head and scanning the area every so often. That’s how she noticed the tall golden, caramel colored stallion as soon as he entered the grounds. Lean, young and athletic in build, with beautiful coloring to boot there was no doubt about it he was a very handsome boy. Not your everyday, run of the mill stud, that was for sure!
She turned her body where it faced him perfectly, giving herself as much of an inviting demeanor as she could muster. If his personality was as unique as his pelt she knew she would say yes if he was to ask her to join him. She couldn’t help but feel the butterflies of excitement in her stomach when she noticed that the gorgeous stallion had in fact decided to approach her. Sure, there wasn't many other mares in the land at the time but the feeling of knowing that she was going to be his first choice certainly added a few notches to her self pride.
She arched her neck and smiled as sweetly as she could at him as he approached. Up close he was even prettier, shinier. His voice... she had no words to explain them. But her ears certainly loved the way it sounded. She smiled even brighter and tilted her head a little, looking up at the tall stallion. Standing as close as she did to the ground there wasn't many she didn't have to look up too. With a bit of a flirty grin she said, "well hello there Gryff. I'm very pleased to meet you! You may call me Epona."

| Gryff could feel the winter breeze get colder and more intense as the day went on. Instinct told him not to linger in the common grounds too long in the risk of getting caught in a winter storm. So long as he was in the comfort of his own territory he didn't mind the winter much, it was a good change of scenery, and he wasn't one that appreciated intense heat.
The fiery red mare spoke, her tone friendly and inviting, it was a good sign. Her name was Epona, Gryffin nodded out of respect and appreciation for her gesture. Flirting was foreign to the stallion, he was one of few words and honestly never had to try too hard before. Whether that was because he had enough natural charm or maybe his nonchalant attitude was a refreshing change for some, whatever it was he appreciated it because anywhere outside of his home was outside of his comfort zone."The pleasure is mine, Epona." Though out of character he figured it wouldn't hurt to try and match the playfulness in her voice.
"Do you have accommodations for this winter?" It wasn't until the sentence left his mouth that he realized he might come off a little fast... An awkward grin was presented as sort of an apology of such. "I don't mean to be haste, I was just speaking in reference to the fast approaching weather." | 239 WORDS Owner of Emerald Acres I don't mind shorter responses most the time just so ya know especially homeless. |

E P O N A
Epona had noticed the slight chill to the air lately, perhaps that's what made her decide to finally move on and approach Pandora's Meadow this morning? Her natural instincts must have kicked in and reminded her she would need permanent, reliable shelter soon. And a handsome stallion to cuddle up with for extra body heat throughout the cold season? Well that was just a major plus she would happily accept. Especially if they were as handsome as the one standing in front of her. She just couldn't get over this boys natural beauty. He was breathtaking!
She couldn't help but grin at the awkwardness in his voice as he tried to flirt back. It wasn't awkward in a way like he didn't want to flirt with her, it was just obvious he didn't know how. That was cute. She was okay with that too, it meant he would have a more straight forward, gentleman approach to him. He wasn't a cocky, arrogant fool. That in itself meant a whole lot and was honestly truly refreshing to the mare. In a more serious tone than she meant she replied, "oh no. I assure you, the pleasure is solely mine at the moment."
The smiles this boy has seen on her face throughout their entire conversation so far couldn't even come close to matching the one that spread across her face when he questioned her winter accommodations. He hastily tried to cover for it, but at least she knew they were headed in the path she intended and was hoping for. He was genuinely interested in her so far. She shook her head no, her voice serious she said, "No Gryff I'm afraid not. I didn't start looking until today of course though, but before I join any heard I have a simple requirement: I was born to be a mother. I expect to receive foals. My last leader denied me a foal due to my size, that is why I left. I am loyal, honest and I do not expect to be LOVED, just respected. That's not something that can be promised, it's a feeling that grows. But I do wish my situation changes soon, this is not a place I wish to spend a single night of my life in."
She added that bit about love in there for the simple fact that she knew mentioning offspring this early can be a major deterrent from a lot of stallions. But whats crazier? Being a mare that demands foals or a mare that demands love? You cannot force or promise love. It doesn't work like that. She could absolutely see herself growing to love a stallion like Gryff quickly. But whether he loves her back? That's a whole different story. She doesn't expect him to promise love to her to get her to go home with him. Just a good home with food, water, shelter & a future of becoming a mother.

Confuoco Spots are sexy. Fuoco knew it, the world knew it and all the mares in the meadow knew it.
Head held high the appaloosa stallion trotted confidently across the grass and surveyed the other equines with crystal blue eyes. The fact that he had been shot down almost 20 times in the last three days didn't seem to bother him and he even winked cheekily at one mare who had rejected him not twice, but five different times. Perhaps today would be the day he'd convince her. It didn't seem to occur to him that being landless and having no other followers was a deterrent for many who sought stability in face of the coming winter. In fact it was baffling to Fuoco that not even one mare had seriously considered joining him.
Toned muscles pulled him to a stop as he considered this thought. Perhaps it was because his spots were too sexy and mares didn't want foals who would grow up to surpass them in level of attractiveness? Or maybe it was because his very presence was too much for them to handle for longer than an hour and were worried that they would never live up to it. Well that last one might be true for some mares, but he would make sure to let them know he would love them just the same.
With his vain conclusions drawn, the stag began his routine. Shaking out his mane, Fuoco arched his neck and began posturing, a well known tradition for attracting the gaze of a willing female. A sly grin of pleasure curved his lips as he noticed mares noticing him. Kicked his heels up, he turned in a tight circle before rearing and batting the air with his hooves to show of his fighting prowess against air devils.
After a few more similar shenanigans Fuoco decided that it was time to attempt an approach. Picking out a sweet looking blue roan mare who had been making eyes at him for a while, he grinned and started walking towards her. Before he could introduce himself however, her gaze slipped over his shoulder and latched onto something just behind him. With a flick of her tail she trotted past him towards it, leaving him baffled. Turning to look towards whatever had caught her attention, Fuoco's ears flicked back in annoyance.
Another stallion had made an appearance and, despite a distinctive lack of spots, every mare was staring at him! Snorting Fuoco narrowed his eyes at the newcomer trying to figure out what was so special about him. Sure the other stallion's coat shone like a river of gold, and perhaps the whole slim athleticism thing could be seen as attractive, but... no spots?!
Growling under his breath, Fuoco made his way over to where the stallion stood and found himself shocked that he had already approached a mare! No posturing or anything! Didn't this poor bastard know how things were done? Fuoco started to feel a little sorry for the stallion, perhaps he should help him out a bit. "Good morning! Isn't it a lovely day?" Fuoco's words were bright and accompanied by a sincere smile, "My name's Fuoco and you two are...?" Penetrating blue eyes fixed themselves first on the stallion and then on the mare as he leaned forward slightly, eager to engage in the conversation.

| GRYFFIN | | While the metallic stallion wasn't a fan of leaving his kingdom, he couldn't deny that the fire colored mare made him glad he did. Perhaps, he wasn't a stallion of few words by choice, he just hadn't encountered enough that made him feel like exchanging words were worth it, or rather that he enjoyed exchanging words with. He listened to her carefully, knowing he couldn't slow down their conversation after he sheepishly brought up accommodations, perhaps the smoothest move he could have made on accident. If it weren't inappropriate Gryff would have laughed at himself, but instead a smile spread across his maw.
"All very reasonable stipulations, Epona. I admire you for knowing what you want. I respect all of your desires, with only one of my own; I don't have a single doubt you would be an honest mare, and an insightful mother, I just would be inclined we spend a little time together and get past the acquaintance stage before any foals." Horses didn't wink, that would be silly. It would also be silly to imagine one blush, but something about how this conversation was going made the blood rush through his veins a little faster, and perhaps if possible his cheeks a little rosier. "I'm sure Emerald Acres would be a warmer place this winter if you joined me. Where was this charisma coming from? Silently he even surprised himself.
While the blazing chestnut mare made him consider being more sociable he was sure it would be pushing his luck to make this outing a regular event. There was too much arrogance in the world today to tempt him to play russian roulette. He had found perhaps the only other being in Pandora's Meadow that had a spark of the right charisma to conjure up a pleasant dialect. He was just accepting his smile as unwavering, until- yup, there it was. Approaching in the form of a loudly spotted stallion, who by the way he carried himself Gryff imagined his mouth was likely just as loud as his coat. Well nothing worth it in life is ever easy.- Gryffin thought to himself.
He did his best to not cross his facial expression into the unfriendly territory, he didn't want to offend Epona. Had he been the second one to approach perhaps his features would be softened, more like the spotted stallion's; but he had already developed a liking to the little red mare and he wasn't completely thrilled with the idea of sharing. The appaloosa stallion spoke, and Gryff found biting his tongue to be even harder. "Well a storm seems to be rolling in, and it is winter- the bite in the air is getting stronger, but all technicalities aside yes, it has been a lovely day so far." He locked his amber eyes with Fuoco's blue eyes to hold their stare before the leopard horse directed his gaze to Epona. "Fuoco." Dark dipped maw opened to address the stallion. "Welcome to the conversation. I'm Gryff." A smirk was offered and perhaps his eyes narrowed slightly, or perhaps they didn't. It was a matter of perspective.

E P O N A
The golden stallion seemed to relax and become slightly more open the more they talked, the smallest of smiles would grace his face and there was a stern kindness to his voice. Although young, Epona was able to forget about the age difference when she talked to Gryff. He was mature for his age, and that meant a lot to her. Most stallions his age still had the childish demeanor about them, never truly thinking things through. But Gryff was different.
She had been watching his face intently, waiting for the golden stallions reaction to how straight forward she had been and she could feel her eyes brighten with joy when she seen the hint of a smile cross his face before replying to her. He ended his little speech with ‘we spend a little time together and get past the acquaintances stage before any foals. 'Oh, absolutely', she thought.
Although she didn’t expect a stallion to ‘love’ her just because they had accepted her into their lands and their life doesn’t mean she was going to be opposed to it if she got lucky and was able to find love at the same time. And if she was able to find love with this beautiful, wise, well mannered stallion standing before her as well as start a family with him? That would be amazing. But the little mare had been around long enough to know there aren’t many things that go to plan and end up like the way you hoped.
And there it was. He finally asked her to join him. True, they hadn’t been talking but a short while - still in their first conversation. But she knew he was the one she needed to go home with. Who knows, she may end up back in Pandora’s Meadow someday. But looking at Gryff she highly doubted it. She had a good feeling about this stud. His whole demeanor had become softer and softer the longer their conversation went on, the hint of a smile would play on his face occasionally. She opened her mouth to reply, “Gryff, I wou-”
She was cut off by an approaching loudly spotted young appaloosa stallion. Another suitor? Her smile disappeared. Her demeanor wasn’t unpleasant looking, her ears were pricked watching him approach. Don’t get her wrong, she was flattered immensely by being the only mare here currently with not one, but two, stallions approaching her, both very handsome young studs. But she already knew Gryff was who she needed to follow.
The stallion spoke cheerfully, his ego shone through his voice. You could tell he knew he was a pretty boy. Pretty day? She raised her brow, but before she could respond Gryff was already on it. She couldn’t help but notice the softened demeanor he had been developing with her quickly disappeared when the spotted stallion approached, but she could tell he was trying to remain well mannered. The sarcasm and sting in his voice came out very strongly though. Epona couldn’t help but let a grin twitch at her lips, “Yes, so far it’s been a very lovely day.”
Fuoco, what an odd name. But it did have a ring to it, and although you could tell he was a very proud stallion with a bit of an ego, he did seem sweet, “Hello Fuoco, I am Epona. It’s nice to meet you.”

Confuoco Fuoco wasn't an idiot. Sure he wasn't the absolute sharpest tool in the shed, but equines tended to underestimate him. They saw only the spots and never looked farther than that. Of course, Fuoco understood the difficulties of working past the spots, I mean, they are pretty amazing.
Clearly the other stallion had made just that mistake. His words dripped with thinly veiled sarcasm and caused Fuoco to lock his eyes on Gryffs'. "Well Gryff," Fuoco truncated the other males name to make it sound like an insult, "I suppose with such a thin coat any cool weather would be... inconvenient for you." No matter how striking Gryff's color was, his breed didn't seem to be able to prepare for the snowy weather which was sure to sweep over Elysium.
The thrill of confrontation began to hum in Fuoco's chest as he continued to stare down Gryff. If it weren't for the little red mare speaking he probably would have challenged him right there. Instead he angled himself towards Epona and smiled warmly at her. Such a sweet little mare deserved so much more than whatever this Gryff could offer her. "Epona, how lovely it is to meet you!" Sincerity shown through his words despite the fact that he had insulted her current companion merely moments ago. "I assume you are here to look for a herd in which to whether the winter?"
Taking a step back he shook out his mane and raised his head proudly. "If so, look no further for I," He paused dramatically and sent a triumphant smile towards Gryff, "Would be happy to help you find one." That would probably throw them both for a loop. "I know pretty much every eligible bachelor that frequent this land and while I may not be worthy of you, I may know a few who are."

| GRYFFIN | | It didn't take long before the Akhal Teke stallion's nerves got to the point that he wouldn't like anything more than to squash the spotty boy's confidence. He had interrupted Epona mid sentence and made an ignorant statement about his ability to get through the winter. However, he knew that Pandora's Meadow wasn't the place. and it wasn't exactly appropriate in front of a lady. So Gryff did the next best thing, he wore an exaggerated smile and directed his attention to Fuoco, brow raised. "I do appreciate your baseless concern for how I endure the winter, and I assure you I do just fine, but why don't we direct our attention where it's deserved." Black tail slapped at his side, and he secretly wished it could be him slapping something else, but the golden stallion had to digress.
Shifting his attention to the well deserved red mare he was inclined to soften his features with a small smile, subconsciously he realized he had to of smiled more today than he had in a long time. He even did his best to drown out the rest of the nonsense spouting off behind him from the spotted boy as he focused intently on Epona. "I do believe you were interrupted earlier, I for one would like to hear you finish what you intended to say." He was still baffled Fuoco thought such disrespect was appropriate, and the bit of what he did catch of his last ramble confused him further. Why would he try to play match maker? What was even his purpose here? Gryff was convinced he just didn't understand how mature conversation flowed.

E P O N A
Epona didn’t say a word as the two stallions put their differences aside them. Their behavior was nothing new. Few stallions could get along together without throwing at least a mild insult towards each other. She’d learned that much in her twelve years. While Fuoco’s insult did spark some truth - Gryff’s coat probably wouldn’t grow as long as his would. Or hers for that matter, having mostly Shetland blood in her (mixed with a little haflinger and welsh cob to boot) she tended to get very hairy in the winter. She was already pretty shaggy and winter had just set in. His words help enough truth that they made her a little self conscious about how haggish her coat made her look, and how ugly she would appear next to Gryff. Of course, she didn’t show that it bothered her, the most reaction she displayed was an unhappy twitch of her ears she couldn’t seem to suppress.
She simply nodded her head when Fuoco asked her about looking for a herd. Of course that’s what she was here for - along with every other mare here. She didn’t say this though, because she knew the slight bitterness she contained at the moment was utter nonsense. Fuoco hadn’t meant them in the way they struck her and she knew that. He was a sweet stallion and she could see that - he was just young and proud. She listened to the spotted stallion’s offer on helping find her someone worthy of her. She immediately shook her head and gave Fuoco an amused smile, “Thank you for the offer, Fuoco, but that won’t be necessary.”
Epona knew her future was with Gryff. She didn’t even have to think twice about it. She caught that small, seemingly rare, smile the golden stallion had to offer again and couldn’t help but return it immediately as she responded to him, “I was about to say that I would love to join you in Emerald Acres, Gryff.”
