i'm still comparing your past to my future
Through the thick snow, the few trees that kept their leaves close shiver in the light of a new morning. Winter limps closer to its miserable end, but that doesn’t mean the blizzards are letting up at all. Ryuko, having spent the night huddled in the limited shade of the trees that hug Pandora’s Meadow, is one of the few creatures that braves the open ground today. The sun glares across the meadow, no cloud dare defying its icy stare. Though she stands in its glow, the heat is faint and the snow chills her skin to what feels like the bone.
Winter is Ryuko’s favourite season. Few other equines brave travelling around in such conditions, and herds tend to stick closely together. In other words, no one goes out of their way to bother her. She also likes the way the landscape changes; everything is stripped away of its gaudiness, back to a plainer form. It feels as if everything is purged, ready for the next year ahead.
Ryuko’s eyes flicker across the meadow, though no one is in sight. Although there are no stallions in the immediate area, both by sight or smell, she already feels a little put on the spot. Nervous is not the right description for it, more a kind of self-consciousness that comes from not having a lot of experience for these situations. Never before has the buckskin felt judged in this way, and although she would like to think she has many skills, talking to the opposite gender is definitely not one of them. How does one stand when a stallion approaches? Will he know what an inexperienced prude she is? It is not words Ryuko struggles with, but more the impression she is worried she might give off.
Nevertheless, she would have to go through this at least once in her life, so why not now? It is merely one of the burdens that comes with being a mare. Not that Ryuko had any trouble looking after herself, quite the opposite in fact, but since she has first-hand experience of what can happen when one has no friends, it would be a wise move for her to find a herd. After all, there had to be someone out there that would put up with her, even if she was just there to make the scenery look a little more pleasant. So Ryuko continues to wait, her hooves planted firmly apart to brace against the north wind, and whatever else decides to come her way.
