5YO/ROCKY MOUNTAIN HORSE/MARE The glossy emerald grass across the meadow, shivering in the wind as if pre-empting the chill of the morning. The sun was just rising, peeking over the horizon in an iridescent hue of orange. Mica stepped out onto the springy snowgrass, catching a mouthful of her sweet, lush breakfast in her mouth before stepping onward. She had no plan, she had left her herd with no rhyme or reason - other than to escape the strange and unknown stallion that had killed her father and been the catalyst for her exit.
But this isn't so bad! She cooed to herself in her head, look at this place! Its magnificent!
Tossing her silvery mane, she kicked up her chocolate hind legs and darted about the clearing, utterly amusing herself by taking in this new feeling of freedom. This gorgeous meadow was much more inviting, much more comfortable than the caved cove she had grown up in; her hooves loved the feel of the grass, as opposed to the rocky floors and sand she was used to. She sniffed the air; it wasn't damp and musty, but clear and cool and fresh... It was all so new and lovely to her, she let out a loud whinny and darted around some more, twisting her body this way and that, feeling the muscles under her chocolate coat stretch out.
It didn't occur to her at all that she was in the open - totally exposed - to anyone who might be waiting in the trees. Mica wasn't very well educated in the habits of other horses or herds or stallions - she didn't know to hide herself to keep her freedom. Her naiveté would someday get her in trouble ... Or perhaps lead her to the right horse, the one would would take care of her.

It was early, and Eldon didn't seen a single mare in the meadow. Sighing, he turned to leave when he saw movement in his eyesight. He turned to look at her, hidden by the trees. She was dancing around the field, seemingly oblivious to his presence. As she moved he studied her. She had a dark coat that reminded him of Breeze - minus the spots.
She whinnied then and it encouraged Eldon to go and talk to her. He stayed hidden for a minute, watching her dance. Then he shook himself into action. He trotted out from the trees, he was on the mare's left, headed towards her so that they were in a t-formation. She would have to turn to greet him, though she could undoubtedly see him. He made sure to keep his body neutral so as not to scare her and spoke. "Hello dear." His voice was gentle and soothing.
The girl was pretty, it wouldn't do to scare her away, and so after he spoke, his features became friendly but not too friendly, and his ears were pricked forward in interest.
(Hope you don't mind me posting Eldon here. Him and Booth can fight over her:) )

Booth // knab x friesian // seven years // 16.1 hhIt was a simply delightful winter morning when Booth finally made it to pandora's meadow. He had left the cool tropics of his lands an pressed further inland in search of mares. It wasn't an active search, as he still wasn't willing to act too poorly in his pursuit, but seeking company was never a bad thing. There was a distinct chill in the air, and he hadn't grown much of a winter coat yet. Still, the first thing to come in was an impressive beard, and his feathers had fluffed up nicely. He strode easily through the grass, still clinging desperately to life despite the cold. Before too long it would hibernate and turn brown, and then he had to wonder if the meadow would empty again until the grass returned in spring.
The world was quiet, and finally the sun crept up over the horizon, bathing the world in orange-yellow light. The stallion felt a bit warmer as his dark coat soaked up the sun's rays, and he had a little skip in his step as he picked up a steady trot. His head was high, his eyes searching the area for other horses. He paused when he spotted a silver dapple mare living it up in the morning light. She was a vision, he felt, and he couldn't look away. She tossed her mane and bucked across the meadow. He had to wonder if she was a bit nutty or just enjoying the cold snap and the freshness it brought in the hearts of all horses, but still he was impressed by her show. He was far enough away to hopefully remain hidden, as he was sure it would take a bit of time to bolster his courage to speak with the mare. She was lovely and he felt his knees tremble a bit.
He admired her not as a prize to be won, but he wanted badly to speak with her and learn about who she was. What was her name? What was she doing here? He couldn't imagine she'd simply materialized in this meadow, where had she come from? The stallion was drowned in his thoughts, finally dragged from his mind by her whinny. He clamped his teeth together to suppress the urge to call back. He was a fair distance away, but not too far to spot the grullo stallion approaching her. He couldn't hear the stud's voice as he spoke, but the words were short and perhaps a greeting. He felt his skin prickle and twitch, but he would hang back for now and see how things went. He wasn't confident enough to approach the mare and tell her she was lovely, especially with another stallion in the mix now. 457 words // shy boy! c'mon Booth don't be a creep

Mica stopped dead in her tracks, her neat, small hooves crunching the grass beneath her, suffering from her abrupt halt. Her chocolate ears flicked this way and that, sharply pointed, as the grullo stallion spoke to her. She huffed out a snort, unsure of his intentions. In the past she had not had a great deal to do with stallions other than her father, and the horse that killed him... But she was curious and very naive; she showed no fear as she stared at him, only interest.
For a while she said nothing, she just stared at him, taking in the unique coat color the stallion possessed; she had never seen anything like it in her short time, and she was thoroughly fascinated. He had a noble looking face and seemed kind, so she felt no fear for him. Stepping towards him, she raised her nose and lifted her silvery tail, trying to make an impression of independence - whether he believed her or not was to be decided.
"Good morning!" she whinnied loudly at him, "what brings you here? Breakfast?!" she sounded a little bit too eager and probably a little immature and stupid at the same time. She mentally scolded herself - that was the exact opposite of the impression she wished to give the stallion. She flicked her tail and tossed her mane again, hoping to cover up her idiocy with some semblance of elegance.
As she tossed her head, she caught a scent on the wind from not too far - another horse was nearby ... Another stallion. The interest and curiosity she had initially faded and left her feeling rather fearful. She readied her hindlegs to flee; a cold sweat breaking out on her rump and staining her coat to a dark black as her anxiety grew. OOC: TWO STALLIONS! WHAT A LUCKY GIRL

The mare seemed interested in him, which was good. He was making good progress. She also seemed to be independent, which confused him as he believes in the stallion point of view, that a mare is never happier then when she is with a stallion.
The mare spoke then and he took what she said jokingly. "Actually, dear, I'm looking for a mare to join my herd." he whinnied, the picture of seriousness, "Would you help me pick one out?" Of course the field was still empty of mares, but she would probably be able to pick up his meaning so it didn't really matter. Now did it?
It was then that the mare began to freak out. He smelt the air, and picked up the scent of another stallion, whom Eldon guessed was the cause of her distress. Perhaps she knew him? Maybe, sometime in the past he had hurt her.
Eldon turned to the mare immediately after scenting the other and tried to calm her down. "It's all right." he told her in a calming voice, "No one's going to hurt you. And if they do, I won't let them. Alright?" His voice was calm, and should she relax again, he would look over in the direction the stallions scent was coming from.

Booth // knab x friesian // seven years // 16.1 hhBooth watched the pair for several moments. They began a dialogue, and suddenly he felt like he was intruding and he should move on. He wanted so badly to speak to the mare, like a child spotting their idol across the way, but he was unable to move. He shifted his weight uneasily, at war with himself. A voice deep inside insisted he make war with the stallion and claim the mare, but he hushed it down, his anxiety pressing at him to flee. He made up his mind, he'd get a final glimpse of her to tide him over through the winter and then he would disappear as quickly as he'd come. He'd retreat to skull's earldom alone, once more, and spend the winter alone in his tropical paradise.
As he turned his attention back to the two horses, the mare's mood had shifted suddenly. She was anxious, her body screaming discomfort. Had the other stallion said something to upset her? While at war with himself he had missed their exchange. Perhaps he himself was the cause of her distress. But his initial thought propelled him forward at a quick trot, his knees coming up high as was his way, and his neck arched. He nickered a greeting, swinging wide away from the horses. He came to a sudden halt about thirty feet from the mare, the big grullo stallion on the opposite side of her. He arched his neck and struck at the dirt, partially an expression of his anxiety and a show of his strength.
No one's going to hurt you. He heard these words, and still he could not process them. The mare's coat was already dark with sweat, so her distress had not been lessened. He could picture it clearly in his mind, that the words were an attempt to comfort the mare, or an effort at quieting her while he prepared to strike. The black brute pinned his ears, bobbing his head low and giving the grullo stud a bit of a stink eye. He had made a fairly dramatic entrance, and now he wasn't sure what to say or do. He supposed now that he inserted himself in the situation, there was nothing to be done. He'd have to fight the strange stallion to protect the little mare if he was indeed a villain, or it wouldn't be long before he was being chased away.
"Ah, hello," he began, a bit at a loss for words. He had bunked things up terribly. Why had he not simply left while he was ahead? "Beg pardon, miss, I just thought you were quite lovely and had to tell you. I mean no harm." he finished. His last sentence was rushed, an attempt at smoothing over the situation. He thought back to his encounter with Keska and his mare and nearly laughed, how similarly things had gone. But that was on his lands, and this was neutral territory. All stallions came here with the same goal in mind, and so mentally he prepared to do battle.

The two boys in front of Mica seemed to be welcoming and kind to her, so she tried to relax herself slightly. Her body subconsciously twitched nervously, despite her best efforts to try and hide her anxiety .... And excitement? She glanced from one of the horses to the other; swishing her flaxen tail, wondering who to speak to first. They were both equally as handsome as each other and it seemed as if they were both interested in her ... But it personality would be the decider. Whoever she would join would have to be prepared to get a bit dirty and fight for her.
She turned to the handsome well-built appaloosa; he had approached her calmly and with an air of confidence, and his striking patterning had caught her eye. He appeared to be much older than her, but to Mica's inexperienced eyes could not really tell how much older. With renewed interest, she let out high pitched snort and stepped forward, questioning both the horses.
"Would I be right in assuming... Both of you are trying to woo me?" She cooed, finding amusement in her own assumptions.
Tossing her chocolate head, she trotted elegantly around both the stallions, sizing them up. All sorts of things ran through her head - do they have any lands? How many mares did they have? Would these stallions be able to protect her if she went with them? What kind of foals would they produce? Mica snorted to herself; she had never considered herself a mother, but she was still interested in how her children might look and whether or not they would be prized for their coats. She stopped in front of them both, close enough to give each of them a gentle nibble on the withers. "What are your names?"

The other stallion was approaching them from the side of the mare Eldon was not protecting. Come on, he couldn't be on both sides of her at once, and was about to switch sides so that he would be facing the other stallion, when he spoke.
The other stallion did not speak as he had expected him to be rather told the mare she was beautiful. She sure was, and Eldon knew what the other was doing. He was trying to steal her. So much for Eldon's subtle approach. He knew that should the other try to take her by force, he would protect her. Sure the other was quite a bit larger, but Eldon believed that the mare should be able to make to her own choice.
Thankfully, the mare calmed down and spoke. She was correct, he had been trying to woo her, that much had been obvious. "You are correct my dear." He would have continued, but thought better of it, as he had been going to say 'After all, every mare needs a stallion.' He was not sure of how she would answer to that.
She began to circle around them, and Eldon felt oddly as if he was being judged on trial, that is if horses had trials. As it was he simply felt uncomfortable and antsy. He was itching to do something.
Then she suddenly stopped. She asked a single question and he answered, "Eldon is my name dear, and what is yours?" Then he stuck his snout out to hopefully touch hers. He then looked to the other stallion and waited to his response. Towards the mare he was gentle, but whenever he looked at the stallion, he was on his guard. He would not fight yet. He wasn't sure if he wanted the mare yet, but he knew he had to find a companion soon.

Booth // knab x friesian // seven years // 16.1 hhNow that Booth was this close, and he could hear Eldon's tone and see the kindness in his eye, he knew he had certainly intruded. This isn't what he was here for... to quarrel with other stallions in pursuit of mares. He desired a band as much as the next stallion, especially as he grew older, but he wasn't prepared to risk his own safety. Above all else, he had himself, and if he'd have to have his face chewed on to win this girl over, he would be content to leave. Still, he was a bit curious as to what would transpire. The mare now seemed eager for their attention, perhaps hoping for the quarrel between the two brutes to escalate. Time had passed quickly, the brute noticed, and the sun was well on its way on its march across the pale sky.
"I'm not sure woo is the correct word." he began, his voice trailing off as the mare began trotting around the two studs. She made a wide circle, as he was still a fair distance away from Eldon. She was a vision as she moved, her dark coat starkly contrasting her pale mane and tail. She had a nice, sound gait, one he admired as very different from his naturally flashy one. He eyed the grullo stallion, and was suddenly more sure he didn't want a fight. Eldon was a few years older, and had a look of experience and wisdom about him. Where Booth had an elegant air and some scars to prove he did his time in the bachelor herd, he twitched anxiously as the mare moved around him. He always had an ear on her, and one on the stallion. If it came to it, he would posture and squeal at the opposing stallion, but there was no longer any fight in his bones. The conclusion he had jumped to had been far off base.
"My name is Booth." he answered, allowing Eldon to introduce himself first. He waited patiently for her reply. Even if he was to leave alone, he would try to be glad that he had met her. The grullo reached out for her, but Booth remained to himself. His head was raised to indicate his discomfort, and he twitched his tail nervously. The nervous twitch turned into a swing, then a violent lash against his hock. Slowly he was coming undone. He quietly hoped that the situation would turn one way or the other and relieve his panic before too long. 422 words // sorry it's a bit short!

Airmane was on the move. He had his land, now he wanted a mare. He would make her his lead mare, let her help him lead the herd, as well as train the colts. As he strode into the meadow, he saw her, his beauty, as well as two other stallions. Her silver coat shone in the sun. He was awestruck by her immense beauty. After an second glance, he spoke, trying to hide his anger at the other stallions. "Hello, beauty, what is your name?" He expected her voice to be as silvered as her coat, but even if it wasn't he was willing to fight for her, to help her find her father's murderer, to avenge her father's death.
