As midnight loped across his new home, he felt happy. It was true that he was not the leader, but second-in-command was nearly as good. Speaking of the leader, where was he? As he looked around, seeing no sign of Rhett, midnight smiled. It looked like he might have beaten him back here. Feeling pleased with himself, he got down to roll in the grass, then, when he had completed his roll, got back up. Raising his voice to the winds, he shouted. "Rhett I'm here, I would like to claim what was promissed." now the only thing that was left to do was wait.

Rhett had taken the long way home to think about the decision he had just made with the stallion known as Midnight. This was a huge decision. He didn't even have any mares yet to call his own, but he had a second in command stallion to rule beneath him? The situation was very unorthodox in his opinion. But who knows, this could be the best decision he'd ever made as the leader of Mount Veridian. Time would tell soon enough...
He didn't go straight to the stallion when he reached his territory, he could sense the stallions presence by his scent so he knew he had beaten him home. He walked to the stream, quenching his thirst as he thought about the final details of his decision before going to compromise them with Midnight. Though it wasn't long before he heard the larger stallions voice ring across the land. Rhett turned towards the direction the sound came from, no need to prolong their discussion any longer.
He was in no rush and made his way to the stallion calmly, he wasn't that far off so it had only taken him a few minutes to reach him. He nodded his head in greeting to Midnight, "I'm not going to make things difficult, I had plenty of time on my journey home to think about what rules we should both go by in order to live peacefully side by side as a team."
"1. There is no 'your part of the herd' or 'my part of the herd', it is 'our herd' as a whole. All I ask is that I have the final say so in any large decisions and that my word is law. 2. I will not demean you in any way or make you feel lesser than myself as far as our role in the herd goes, I just want a mutual understanding between the two of us on that matter. 3. As I said, it's 'our herd', but I just want to clarify that I do not expect us to 'share' mares - we will just protect our mares together as a single herd. "
Watching the black stallions face he added, "Really, I think that's all that needs to be said. We're both respectful stallions so I see no reason for there to be a conflict over anything in order for us to rule together. Did you have anything you would like to discuss about the matter?"

Looking calmly into the face of the chestnut stallion, Midnight listened intently, taking in everything that he said. When he said that he just wanted the final say, and would not try to make Midnight feel lesser than himself, Midnight felt surprised. He was expecting Rhett to want more, to want total control over everything Midnight did. When Rhett finished his speech, he asked if Midnight had anything to discuss.
"No, you have made your expectations crystal clear." Said Midnight. "I only feel that I should alert you to the one mare in our herd. Her name is Simplicity, and I invited her here."
