| Simplicity stepped daintily through the trees, making her careful way to the open meadow. The trees overhead bustled with activity as the various woodland critters made their preparations for winter. A few squirrels chattered noisily at the Arabian mare who eyed them curiously and proceeded on her way. A nippy wind skirted through the forest, fingering her mane and toying with her tail. She uttered a snort of excitement and practically pranced the remainder of the way through the forest. Winter may be on its way, but so were other exciting new things. Her skin rippled with pleasure at the thought of being social once more and entering the security of a herd. It had been some time since she had been in the presence of other horses, but she recognized the smell from this meadow. Surely she would find some companionship here.
Flagging her tail, raising her head proudly, and flaring her nostrils, Simplicity exploded from the cover of the trees and galloped out into the clearing. Feeling the crisp grass under her hooves sent a shiver of anticipation through the young mare, and she continued her carefree sprint across the meadow until finally settling to a halt near a particularly thick clump of grass. She raised her head high, eyes scanning around for signs of movement. Seeing none in her near vicinity, she lowered her dished face toward the ground and pawed a few times. Annoyed by the pawing creature that interrupted its business, a disgruntled turtle began its slow journey out of the clump of grass. Simplicity’s eyes widened and she leapt back with a snort, dancing near the turtle. Sensing that the small being had no way of harming her, she stretched her muzzle back down to give its shell a prod and a sniff. The turtle was about to continue on when it felt her gentle push and immediately sucked all of its extremities into its shell for safety. This process further fascinated Simplicity, who had never before experienced a turtle, having come from a more arid environment. Her pert little ears were focused solely on this little critter, and she forgot her original purpose of approaching the claiming meadow. The turtle had piqued her interest so strongly that she was rendered nearly oblivious to any that may approach her—for good or for bad.

4YO/ANGLO-ARAB/STALLION reply to kiblet Keska carefully pressed his mud-caked hooves into the moist earth as he stood under the long fronds of a weeping willow at the end of the lake, watching the young, dainty mare carefully. For a short time, all his ears could grasp was the rustling of the leaves of the trees, like whispers on the wind trying to confuse him. Straining for any kind of sound, he was pretty convinced the mare hadn't noticed him yet, and he believed he wanted it to stay that way. Dealing with other horses had never been a strong point of his. Letting out a frustrated huff through dilated nostrils, he backed his haunches up as far as he could go against the trees, his silky black tail swished irritably with frustration between his hind legs. Creamy ears pricked to attention, he watched her dance and play along the lakeside, scrutinizing her movements in an attempt to discern her personality. Was she friendly? Or perhaps she was highly strung and might react badly to him... His derisive thoughts just further convinced him to stay away from her, and he flicked his ears and gently pawed the dirt as he grappled with his feelings. But lately he had been at odds with these very feelings; he felt lonely - but he didn't want to let others close to him.
This mare didn't seem a whole lot older than he was; she was also unaccompanied. If he had a shot at changing his past and making a friend - this was probably it. He had come so far from home to try and change himself - and make a new life. Sucking in a puff of cool air, he - almost unwillingly - walked out from the safety of the willow's branches; large, dark eyes and pricked ears trained fully on the young bay mare. Taking a few steps towards her, ears flicking this way and that, his brain quickly flitted between various things he could say to her, yet none of them seemed right. The edge of the lake came to him all too quickly and soon the cold water was lapping at his hooves and he was only a few feet from her.
"... Hello." He offered, his tone giving away his nervousness, "are you alone?" He was being abrupt and knew it, but he didn't mean to come across as such. Letting out a snort, he mentally scolded himself for being so curt.

| A nervous voice cut through the brisk air and startled Simplicity from her turtle inquisition. Throwing her head up with a start, the surprised Arab whirled to face the unexpected visitor. After a brief glance at the buckskin stallion, she ascertained that he likely meant no harm and began to settle once again. With a snort and a head toss, she contemplated how to respond. "Well, hi there!" She paused briefly, hesitating to reveal if she was truly alone in case this fellow was up to no good. After mulling it over for a second more, she gave a mental shrug and decided to be honest. After all, Simplicity knew she was hopeless at hiding anything from anybody. "I’m as alone as can be…aside from this strange thing. Seen one before?" She motioned back towards the immobile shell, eyes and ears trained on the stallion as she bent her head downward. He appeared to be young and anxious, but she knew as well as anybody how intimidating it could be to interact with strangers.
As her gaze swept over his frame, she began to feel excitement bubbling up once more. Not only was there actually another horse nearby, but he had chosen to talk to her! It took all of her self-control not to start prancing in place. Perhaps he had a territory? Perhaps he had other mares? Perhaps he was interested in exploration…or friendship? Her mind raced through all the possibilities, finally deciding that it did not truly matter what this fellow’s background or intention was—she was interacting with somebody! Putting on an air of self-assuredness despite an increasing pulse, Simplicity took a step closer. "I’m Simplicity of…well…nowhere right now I guess." A pang of dismay rent through her as she remembered her current state of homelessness. So much for the formal introduction; nobody is impressed by a homeless mare she thought to herself. Nevertheless, she was not one to dwell in negativity and decided to mind her manners and offer the proverbial olive branch again. "It was very kind of you to approach—who are you?" She stretched her muzzle out slowly and cautiously, attempting to greet him and acknowledge his scent but ready to snatch back if the interaction went sour.
The wind had picked up during their short interaction, darker clouds beginning to roll in across the sky. She had been warned that thunderstorms were a common occurrence as the seasons prepared to change in this new land. She had yet to feel that sense of electricity in the air that usually signaled an impending storm, but time would tell. | Simplicity // 5 years old // Arabian // Mare // Bay // 15hh // Homeless OOC: She's always eager to make friends:)

4YO/ANGLO-ARAB/STALLION reply to kiblet Keska pricked his ears and let a short whinny escape from his throat. Somewhere in the distance, thunder echoed. This mare didn't seem perturbed by him - in fact she seemed to be rather amicable. He internally breathed a sigh of relief as she spoke to him.
She prodded coyly at the turtle in front of her while questioning him; Keska had indeed seen one before, he had plodded many a day through stinky, slimy marshes and along beachsides where many of these kinds of creatures lived. At the time he had paid them no heed, mainly due to his aching limbs or itchy mud-caked coat. Cautiously stepping his black hooves forward, he approached the lovely mare quietly as she spoke to him through friendly tones; his eyes darting between her and the turtle, his beige haunches twitching as if to flee at the first sign of any maliciousness towards him. Sweat caked his forelock as his anxiety grew. "I believe it's called a turtle" He pushed his black nose against the shell as the ripples of the shore lapped at the object, "some sort of water-living animal, I think." No sooner had he finished speaking that the young bay began to introduce herself, he squared his body to attention; she seemed to be the same way as he was - alone and homeless - but she was dealing with it better than he was. She held held her ebony tail high, she had pranced and galloped as if carried by the wind around the glade earlier while he hid beneath the trees... Keska knew he had a lot to learn about enjoying solitude. As she extended her muzzle in greeting, he stepped a foreleg back in shock... She was so forthcoming. The smell of rain began to permeate the air around him, the humidity grew stronger as if to push him even further out of his comfort zone. Tossing his ebony mane, he caught the gentle gaze of the mare and pulled himself together again. "My name is Keska and I, too, seem to have nowhere to belong." He let out with a regretful nicker as he touched his velvety nose to hers, "I'm hoping to find some place to settle in these lands." He saw Simplicity's dark eyes turn towards the sky and he followed her gaze, the purple hazed clouds filled his vision and he one again felt the tense humidity of the approaching storm. It was not going to be an easy night. "Maybe we should take shelter." He suggested, turning back to her with another flick of his mane, "to be honest, I am just passing through here. If you have nowhere to go, would you like to accompany me?" Keska did not consider himself a prize stallion, but perhaps the mare would think it was better than being alone.

| Although he seemed surprised by her chattiness and bluntness, she could sense the stallion beginning to relax as they chatted, which allowed her to relax more in turn. When he finally acquiesced to touch noses in greeting, she considered this interaction a success. How lucky could she be? He was smart (ie knew what a turtle was apparently), cautious, companionable, and had a plan to find a place to settle. Going through this mental checklist, Simplicity felt more confident in accompanying the stallion going forward.
As the humidity rose, Simplicity began to fidget. She was from a more desert-like climate and rather unfamiliar with storms. The stallion did not appear to be perturbed by the change in atmosphere but simply suggested they take cover. Flicking her tail against her legs, she began to ponder where they should go. She first eyed the slow-moving river where the turtle had snuck off to whilst they talked. With the brisk nip in the air from impending winter, the thought of stepping into the water gave her the chills. Next, her gaze settled on the forest nearby. The tree-dwelling creatures had all scurried into their nests and dens, safely settled away from the effects of the coming thunderstorm, and silence fell upon the woods. A moment later, the first raindrops began to plop down. One particularly juicy drop landed squarely on her rump, and Simplicity nearly sat on her haunches as she ducked and whirled away from the surprising sensation. With a squeal and a nervous snort, her nostrils flared as she sought to determine what had dared sneak up and touch her. Upon realizing that it was simply
a drop of water, she lowered her ears to the side and dropped her head, cutting her eyes to the stallion in a look of pure embarrassment, hoping he had not noticed her skittish antics. ”I think shelter is a most excellent idea. Where to?"
She regained her posture enough to assume a mildly confident air and stood her ground as more raindrops began to fall around them. It was then that her mind began to race again, imagining what sorts of lands this stallion was interested in finding. He seemed to know about waterways, more than she did in any case, so perhaps he would be more of a riverside or oceanside dweller. Then again, he seemed young and fit, so perhaps he would be more adventurous and prefer a more mountainous or desert-like terrain. With winter coming on, Simplicity hoped that he wouldn’t choose a particularly cold or harsh climate, but he didn’t appear to have but so thick a coat either. Either way, she was pleased to have a companion and would follow him wherever he chose to travel.

4YO/ANGLO-ARAB/STALLION reply to kiblet Simplicity's obvious startle at the oversized raindrops falling from the sky was rather endearing to Keska as he gazed at her; he let out an amused chortle and flipped his tail side to side. He, too, felt the drops upon his withers and breathed in the unmistakeable scent of warm water on the wind. The storm threatened to beat down hard and fast, and Keska found himself looking around subconsciously, ears flicking rapidly, as Simplicity questioned his intent.
While thunder rumbled overhead again, Keska leaned his head down low and snatched a mouthful of watergrass, contemplating where to go from here as the sweet taste filled his mouth. He could see in the distance the lush, green glow of a forest and the shelter it could provide him from the storm, as well as enemies, seemed enticing. The main problem was if he ran into other stallions - they would surely be territorial and Keska was in no mood to fight. In a worse case scenario, Simplicity could get caught up in the whole affair too. If they moved quickly enough through the denser parts of the forest, it was probably possible to avoid any run-ins and search out a cave in a hillside.
Making his mind up, Keska tossed his cream head high and let out a loud neigh, as if confirming his decision with the rest of the world. Kicking his back legs out, he gracefully cantered a neat circle around Simplicity, his ebony mane and tail spraying out behind him, before announcing what they were to do. "Let's go to the nearby forest." He pointed his nose in the direction of the emerald overgrowth lingering on the horizon, "we can probably find a cave and food to tide us over until the storm passes." Giving the bay mare a gentle, affectionate nip on the withers, he began to trot away almost too happily, proud of his accomplishment of the day - he had made a friend at last. | Eyeing the stallion curiously as he circled her, Simplicity cocked her head ever so slightly. She could see a playful side of his nature beginning to peek through and this intrigued her—she loved to play (when appropriate of course). When she felt his teeth graze her withers, a shiver ran down her spine, which she masked as a full body shake of the water from her coat. She pawed the moistening ground softly, eager to be off and out of the oncoming storm. As much as this moisture was important to replenish the river and lush grass, it made footing slightly more challenging. As she went to take a step forward, the forming mud sucked at the leaving hoof, giving her a mild start as she tugged more forcefully to free it. Looking down at the offending mud with disdain, she proceeded forward slightly faster, picking her
feet high before settling them back down. After a few paces of looking like a high-stepping Hackney harness horse, she felt rather ridiculous and settled back into a more normal gait. Dropping her head low, she followed his suit and grabbed several mouthfuls of grass as she slowly ambled after the retreating stallion. Who knew when they would next see such sustenance—having spent time in desert- like land, she always took advantage of every opportunity to eat.
Although she had not noticed the scent or sight of any other horses, or predators for that matter, in the vicinity, she was sure they would encounter some soon. She appraised the young stallion from behind, watching his muscles bunch as he trotted forward. Depending on the threat, she figured between the two of them they would manage. Caves…that’s where cougars and wolves and all manner of predators would be lurking. Uttering a snort, she pushed thoughts of predators from her mind and instead let her thoughts trail to happier things like meeting other horses.
Casting one last lingering look at the lush meadow, she plunged into the forest. The rain continued to patter on the leaves as they made their way through the forest, but otherwise the woods were quiet aside from the noises they made. One ear trained ahead and one ever-vigilant ear trained back, she continued to trot after the buckskin as they headed off to the next adventure.
